Answers to your at-home hair care Q's
The illusion of hair color coverage has to do with the formulation, your own pigmented hair and the percent of un-pigmented hair (the hair we call “gray”). This is also true for traditional dyes. The difference is D’Aubyn Color pigments do not pre-lighten your hair: so it never turns brassy; does not break down the hair fiber; and therefore does not create an intense line of demarcation.
The purpose of the archaic coloring process is to create a high pH environment in order to deposit the artificial pigment. This may result in more uniform color, which has the appearance of better coverage, but in reality, it delivers a monochromatic color which then fades out to an unnatural version of your own color that once was.
The only time you’ll hear me use the word “permanent” in reference to hair color is when I’m speaking of the pigment your body produces in your hair all on its own. The hair color industry geniously labeled traditional oxidation dyes that use 20% H202 or higher “permanent” - True, these dyes permanently alter your hair but that is not the marketing that is being suggested.
All artificial hair pigments will fade with washing. If the question is: will it completely wash out of my hair and will my un-pigmented strands revert back to white after a certain time? The answer is: when you color your hair with D’Aubyn Color pigments, yes, it will fade with washings, but, no, it will never completely revert back to its original strand of color (or un-color) until you cut it out.
Because of the lack of ammonia and peroxide ingredients, D'Aubyn Color will not stain your skin, only your hair.
The D'Aubyn Color ingredients are so gentle, you can reapply color within the same session. However you may want to wait a couple days to see your results before you reformulate and/or reapply.
There are several factors that determine how often you will desire to color your hair. The first is the formulation for your particular percentage of un-pigmented hair vs pigmented hair. The good news is that you will no longer struggle with a line of demarcation in your pigmented hair (unless you choose a color much darker than your dominant level of pigment.) And, the beauty of the D’Aubyn Color pigments is that you can use a shade as light as you want because it will not affect or lighten your own pigment.
I encourage all of my clients to go with what is in their strands now and make it work for them. So if you’ve got clusters of un-pigmented hair, turn those into beautiful highlights with D’Aubyn Color and you’ll have seamless hair color that lasts till you grow it out, or not - your choice! Another factor is your particular porosity of hair fiber and how often you wash it.
The last, but probably most important, is your particular aesthetic view of your hair color. I find that the clients who “decide” they have beautiful hair have a much more sustainable hair color experience.
It is definitely advisable to cover all surfaces that you’d not want to stain in any way. However, it does not stain your skin. Gloves are recommended when you are applying the color.

If you have allergies to hair dyes you will most likely also be allergic to our dyes. If you are of the 1% who has these allergies to hair dye, we strongly recommend that you do not color your hair with anything that can color un-pigmented hair. If you are allergic to henna then, no, as our pigments are henna-free.
